Since the inaugural Tech Inclusion Conference in 2015 we have received and granted over 100+ scholarship applications to attendees. The Theme for Tech Inclusion 2016 Conference is Inclusive and Sustainable Innovation and will be held October 26th — 27th at the Innovation Hangar in San Francisco. Tech Inclusion Conference is presented by Google for Entrepreneurs. The conference will feature a career fair, a startup showcase and an tech innovation demo hall. Regular admission tickets are on sale now.

Solution: Create Career Pathways For Tech’s Invisible Workforce (janitors, security and support staff)

I would like to see companies appreciating and providing more opportunities to the Tech’s invisible workforce: janitors, security and support staff that keep the companies safe, clean and functioning.

This idea comes from Laura Gomez, the daughter of a nanny and current CEO of Atipica and also from my experience as a daughter of a McDonald’s janitor. I believe that companies can do better ask your building security guards, office janitors, gardeners if their kids need a job, internship or a scholarship. Why not create an internship or summer program for the children or relatives students who are first-generation students and open doors to people who don’t have a lot of connections?

A lot of the people who work in these positions tend to come from be underrepresented backgrounds. Inclusion should not only be limited to a certain part of the workforce. Tech companies can do a better job bringing invisible workforce out of the shadows.
