The Theme for Tech Inclusion 2016 Conference is Inclusive and Sustainable Innovation and will be held October 26th — 27th at the Innovation Hangar in San Francisco. Solution: Developing A STEM and ID (Innovation and Design) Lab Program For The K-12 Curriculum
In tech I believe it is crucial to start tech education early on for K-12 curriculum. In order to thrive in the field of technology, students who come from low-income or first generation backgrounds need an introduction to the context in which they use technology and how they can influence innovation and policy in the future.
At Downtown College Prep, a non-profit charter school in San Jose, we are developing a STEM and ID (Innovation and Design) Lab Program for grades 6–8 in order for students to develop design thinking skills as well as discover their interests in tech and fabrication.
I am interested in this conference because these DCP programs are still in their beginning stages, and topics such as providing a STEM pipeline and how privilege and mental health play a role in the retention rate of minorities in the field can be a valuable resource for how we shape our programs.
